Abandoned Baby Identified
LAKEWOOD, Ohio - Lakewood Police have identified an infant who was abandoned on a bench yesterday.

Police say they made the ID, after media outlets broadcast a photo of the child. They've also been in contact with the infant's mother.

The investigation into the circumstances that led to the child being abandoned is ongoing, and detectives plan more interviews.

Lakewood Police Chief Timothy Malley says the identities of both the child, and his mother, are not being released, because this is a possible case of Child Neglect.

The baby was discovered shortly before Noon Wednesday, on a bench in the lobby of the Lakewood Hospital Professional Building on Detroit Avenue.

Employees from the Hospice of the Western Reserve were caring the for the little boy, until police arrived.

They told investigators that no one was seen near the infant, who was believed to be between 4 and 6 months old.

A black and red backpack, filled with baby clothes, was found with the child, as were several bottles and a box of formula were also with the baby, who was taken to Lakewood Hospital, and appears to be in good health.

The little boy is currently in the care and custody of Cuyahoga County Childrens and Family Services.
