AKRON -- An Akron councilman is trying to stop the potential opening of an adult-oriented club on Brittain Road.
Councilman Bruce Kilby says the former "Dreamers" location will be re-opening under new management.
Kilby says the adult club once featured female dancers and alcohol, but the new owner will offer the same entertainment with juice and other non-alcoholic beverages.
"This is not the type of establishment we need in this community," said Councilman Kilby. "There are similar businesses nearby, but we don't need another one and this one violates zoning laws."
Kilby says the building is located too close to several homes and current requirements mandate that adult businesses operate more than 500 feet from a residential area. The councilman said he's now consulting a city attorney regarding the matter.
An electronic sign outside the club mentions the grand opening of a "nude and juicy" business on November 25th. A woman who answered the door at the club did not have a comment for Fox 8 News and calls to the owner's attorney were not returned.
Voters in this particular precinct in Kilby's ward, voted this month to abolish liquor sales, which prohibits any business from selling alcohol.
