WOOSTER, Ohio--- A local woman convicted of murdering an Amish mother of five learns her fate.

Wednesday afternoon, a Wayne County Common Pleas Judge sentenced 39-year-old Barbara Raber to 23 years to life in prison.

"I don't believe any sentence the court imposed would ease the pain the family has suffered," said Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Edna Boyle.

Earlier this month, Raber was convicted of aggravated murder in the death of 30-year-old Barbara Weaver.

This past June, Weaver was found shot to death in the chest while she was sleeping in her bed at her home in Wayne County.

Prosecutors say Raber had been having an affair with Weaver's husband for six years. In August, Eli Weaver pleaded guilty to conspiracy to murder and is now serving a 15 year prison sentence for his role in his wife's death.

"Eli Weaver was obviously not faithful to his faith and the Amish community. He did have a cell phone," said Boyle.

Prosecutors say text messages later revealed that Eli and Raber had been planning to kill Barbara Weaver for a couple of months.

Although the murder weapon was a shotgun, prosecutors said Eli and Raber talked about several different ways to murder Barbara Weaver. "They discussed ways to get rid of his wife by poisoning her, by using gasses to blow up the house."

Raber showed no emotion as the judge read aloud her punishment. Although the married mother of three received the minimum punishment, her attorney says he will be filing an appeal.
