A sky-high marriage proposal takes an unexpected turn!
James Ng is a pastor at New Mercies Church in Burton Township. During the summer of 2008, the 26-year-old pastor met his girlfriend, Sonja Bostic on the online dating website, "E-Harmony."
After a year and a half of dating, Ng decided to pop the question. During a surprise hot air balloon ride in Portage County, Ng asked a passenger to film the proposal on his hand-held camcorder. But when Ng tried to move the camera bag from his lap, the bag fell to the ground.
"It just popped right out over the edge and sputtered and spun," said Ng.
Although the ring was nowhere in site, James still got down on his knee and proposed. Without hesitating, Bostic said yes.
Determined to find the missing ring, church members helped the couple search the woods in Ravenna.
"There was so much land area, I pretty much said there's no way," said Bostic.
After nearly a week of searching, Ng discovered the camera bag near a tree. When he opened the bag, the ring was still intact.
"What a relief it was to get it on her finger," said Ng.
"It truly, truly was a miracle that he found it. It was a miracle of god," said Bostic.
The couple plans on getting married sometime next summer.
