Friday morning, Lori Scott and her daughter, Krystal Moffitt, went on their traditional Black Friday shopping spree.
Scott tells Fox 8 News that she and her daughter were having a great day until they got home.
"We had a wonderful time. We were all done, we were high-fiving, it was snowing. It was good," Scott says. "We couldn't wait to get back home."
But, around 9:30 in the morning, someone broke into Scott's van while she and her daughter had breakfast at a Bob Evans restaurant in Elyria.
The thieves stole $800 worth of gifts for Scott's grandsons and the Toys for Tots drive.
"Everything happened so fast," explains Moffitt. "I ran out, saw the window was broken, the bags were gone."
According to the mother and daughter, the two were shopping for hours, but all they have from the excursion is a stack of receipts and a roll of wrapping paper.
Moffitt tells Fox 8 News she feels bad about the scarifices her mom made to buy the presents. "I thought about my mom waking up at 4:00 in the morning to go to work everyday, to make money, to spend at Christmas time for her grandkids."
Her mother is equally upset that she can't give her grandchildren their Christmas presents.
"How could you tell a little 4-year-old that grandma doesn't have anything because someone broke the window and now I don't have any presents? I can't," explains Scott, through tears.
The family says they want the thieves to know they stole from children. Moffit tells Fox 8 News the family is sticking together through the difficult time. "They got the toys, but I'm not gonna let them ruin the season -- my boys' Christmas."
Neither the value of the stolen gifts nor the broken window meets the family's insurance deductable, so they're forced to pay out of pocket.
Elyria Police are still investigating the theft. If you have any information please call them at (440)323-3302.
