LORAIN, Ohio -- Three people were injured after a dog attacked them inside of a store.
Calvin Frost, 46, owns three dogs and says he's a pretty good judge of how they're feeling. Frost says he completely misread the mood of the dog that wandered into the Dollar General store on Broadway Avenue in Lorain on Saturday.
"I turned, and when I turned, he attacked and so when he attacked I put my hand up, he bit me in my hand and after he bit me, I took off running. He bit me in the back of my calf down here and I was running and when he bit me, I fell and when I fell, I shattered my knee," Frost told Fox 8 News.
He was one of three customers in the store bitten by the black Labrador/German shepherd mix. One of the victims was a terrified young boy who ran out of the store before he could be identified.
Onlookers said the attack was sudden.
"You know, he didn't look like he was going to do nothing, and then he just snapped," Frost explained.
When Lorain Police arrived at the store, the dog charged at them. Two officers shot him a total of seven times before the attack finally ended.
The animal was later euthanized. Investigators are now trying to identify the owner, as well as the child who was bitten.
"There could be rabies, I think normally the vet would take deceased animals, would check for that, also the boy could have some information about the identity of the dog as well," Sgt. Mark Carpentiere said.
Frost underwent four hours of surgery to rebuild his shattered knee, which now has 17 pins holding it together.
He says the dog's owner should come forward.
"I believe it was somebody's dog and he was staying there to try and protect him, and they wouldn't step up to the plate,"
Anyone who can identify the dog's owner or the young boy who was bitten, is asked to call Lorain Police.
