CLEVELAND HEIGHTS -- Police are investigating the death of a woman who was allegedly mauled by her family dog early Sunday morning.

According to Cleveland Heights police, Ricardo Baker, of 3827 Woodridge Road, called police a little before 3:30 a.m. Sunday, after he found his wife, Carolyn Baker, 63, injured outside of their home.

After police arrived at the residence, they discovered that Baker had severe injuries to her right arm and shoulder, along with other bite marks inflicted from the family's rottweiler mix. She was taken to Huron Road Hospital by EMS, where she was pronounced dead.

Further investigation revealed that at approximately 2:45 a.m., Carolyn Baker went out to her backyard to bring the dog in the house -- which had been inadvertently left out for an unknown period of time.

Police say Ricardo Baker was asleep and unaware that his wife had gone outside until he received a call from a neighbor, alerting him that the dog was loose and in their yard. When Baker went to retrieve his dog, he found his wife in their driveway in a pool of blood, said Cleveland Heights police.

The dog has been impounded by police.

Police are investigating the incident.
