MEDINA, Ohio -- A local woman, frustrated by the rising costs of health care, wrote a letter to the president. Much to her surprise, President Obama didn't just read her letter. He also read it out loud at a health care reform meeting at the White House.

Thursday, President Obama was meeting with Congressional Democrats about the health care reform when he read the letter that was written by Natoma Canfield, 50, of Medina.

Natoma is a breast cancer survivor. The self-employed "cleaning lady" pays out of pocket for her own health care insurance. Because of the sluggish economy, Natoma is struggling to find work. She said her biggest fear is losing her family's home, the same home she grew up in. "We've had a very happy life here. The thought it could be lost one day because of big medical bills, that's kind of frightening," Natoma shared.

Natoma said last year her insurance premiums increased by 40%, making her monthly premiums more than $700.

Frustrated and fed up, this past December Natoma wrote a letter to the President, citing the need for affordable health care.

"I originally wrote the letter because I wanted my story to go into a file that we needed something done with health care. This has been exciting. I hope it helps in some small way get something accomplished."

Back in February, Natoma received a note signed by the President thanking her for her letter. "I couldn't believe the President had taken time to write me a note," Natoma said. That letter is now framed and matted.
