Another student is behind bars in the stomping death of a Kent State Pre-Business Major. Authorities say 21-year-old Glenn Jefferson was driving the men accused of killing Chris Kernich, a 23-year-old Kent State student.
Jefferson is charged with two counts of obstructing justice for allegedly lying to police about what happened that night. Ronald Kelly, 20, and Adrian Barker, 21, were each formally charged with murder for the mid November attack which left Kernich in a coma before he eventually passed away.
Kernich died from a head injury after he was attacked while walking home along East Main Street in Kent. Police say the 23-year-old was with two friends when they were nearly run over by a car. Witnesses tell Fox 8 News one of the students yelled to the driver "watch what you're doing".
Police say the car then pulled ahead of Kernich and his friends, and Kelly and Barker jumped out and began beating the three students.
Jefferson is from Mentor but was attending the University of Akron along with Barker and Kelly. Jefferson's past troubles with the law appear minor, although it seems he's always behind the wheel when there's a problem. He was found guilty of driving while under suspension three months ago. In February of 2008 he got busted for driving with fictitious plates.
Jefferson is in the Portage County Jail under a $200,000 bond.
