LORAIN, Ohio -- A Lorain woman is devastated after discovering her beloved cat lying dead in her neighbor's driveway.
"It meant a lot to us. It was a very loving cat," said owner Darlene Zahner.
According to a Lorain Police report, the woman's next-door neighbor 26-year-old Angel Ruiz shot the cat with a BB gun. Ruiz is now facing charges of killing an animal. When officers arrived, Ruiz told them the cat was knocking over trash cans and urinating in his yard.
The cat's owner says she had no idea her cat had wandered outside. Thursday night, her daughter was inside the kitchen when she heard a loud "popping noise" coming from outside. When her daughter looked outside the window, she discovered 2-year-old Shadow lying dead in the driveway.
"She hurried up and ran out to the back door and she said, 'Oh my god! You killed my cat! Why?'" said Zahner.
Saturday afternoon, Ruiz told FOX News Reporter Elisa Amigo, "The cat didn't die off of a gun. The dogs must have got a hold of him."
According to the police report, Ruiz admitted to shooting the cat. When asked if he would ever hurt an animal, Ruiz replied, "No, never. I got two dogs of my own."
Zahner says not only is she devastated about what happened, but she also feels this whole situation could have been avoided if her neighbor would have just walked over and knocked on the door to tell her he was upset.
"He had no remorse. He didn't even say I'm sorry or tell me what happened," said Zahner.
