Police say 13-year-old Amber Dell was headed home from a friend's house in Mentor-on-the-Lake Tuesday night when the accident happened.
The teen was walking in the grass down Dahlia Drive when an SUV, heading in the opposite direction, swerved off the side of the road and hit her.
Instead of stopping to help, witnesses say the SUV took off.
Amber tells Fox 8 News she collapsed after being hit. "I fell to the ground. I screamed."
Her father, Christopher Dell said, "She was on the ground, she was in a lot of pain. Her shoes were completely knocked off of her, her cell phone probably 15 feet away from her."
Neighbors say they heard Amber's cries for help. After notifying her parents, Amber was taken to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital.
She suffered injuries to her knee and neck but is expected to make a full recovery.
After spending three days in the hospital, she was released Thursday afternoon.
Meanwhile, investigators are continuing to search for a dark-colored, smaller size SUV with a partially cracked headlight.
Amber's parents are pleading with whoever did this to please come forward. In the meantime, they are passing out fliers with information about the accident. Amber's father Christopher Dell said, "I just ask you turn yourself in. What kind of a person could do this?"
Anyone with information is being asked to call Mentor-on-the-Lake Police at (440)257-7234.
