Monday night, Samantha Smolara, 13, invited two of her friends to a sleepover at her home on West 81st Street in Cleveland.
"Last time we seen them was between 2 and 2:30, they were talking to each other and talking on their cell phone," said Jack Nelson, the live-in boyfriend of Samantha's mother.
According to a police report, a relative told officers she saw the girls drinking, smoking and taking pills the previous evening. Around 3:00 Tuesday afternoon, Jack went to check on them.
"I had to force my way through the bedroom door and I found the deceased by the wall, and then I found the other two...one was facing laid down right by her and one was on the bed," said Nelson.
"They carried a little girl out by her hands and legs and put her in an ambulance," said neighbor Leonard Workman.
Amy Haar is the stepmother of 14-year old Karrie Haar, one of the girls taken to the hospital. She says she has never known of her stepdaughter to take drugs in the past.
"I just want to know how, how did they let this happen?, when I have kids staying in my home, I always check on them," Haar said.
She says her stepdaughter told her and admitted to police they were taking pills.
"There was different drugs ranging from anti-depressants to psyche meds, to a nerve medicine, and that they just put them in a fishbowl basically and passed them around and took anywhere from two at a time to ten at a time," said Haar.
"There was prescription drugs in the house, we don't know if they were the ones that were taken or not, and it's under investigation," explained Nelson.
Karrie Haar was discharged from MetroHealth Medical Center today. Her friend, 14-year-old Josie Senters, is listed in fair condition at Metro.
Cleveland police are still investigating. No one has been arrested.
