HILTON HEAD, South Carolina - An associate pastor has come up with a way for LeBron James to stay in Cleveland and become the "most dedicated and loyal athlete in the history of sports."
Christopher Benek recently gave a sermon at Provdience Presbyterian Church in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Ohio native is a big LeBron fan. Here's his plan.
"LeBron James should agree to a three year contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers to play for one dollar each season," says Benek.
The pastor was inspired that LeBron prayed for Detroit Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey when Stuckey collapsed on the court back in May. "As a brother in Christ, I have been praying for LeBron," continued Benek who thinks that LeBron can be a "King" by leading by example. The one dollar salary would allow the Cleveland Cavaliers to sign some other all star players, and LeBron could help bring a championship to Northeast Ohio.
Giving up the multi-million dollar salary would show his dedication to the team, and his commitment to win above all else.
Benek believes that this act of generosity would also show Christians that serving others is not about money, it's about giving up what would obviously make life better on earth, for a chance to recieve the Grace of God in heaven.
"My proposition is a no lose proposition for King James." The statement is not just a request, it's a challenge. Benek says if LeBron agrees to the one dollar per year salary, that Benek will agree to it as well. Giving up his salary from the church and serving Providence Presbyterian for one dollar per year.
