AVON LAKE, Ohio - The 14-year-old girl police say admitted to writing a note Friday that had Avon Lake High School on lockdown has been suspended.

Avon Lake City Schools Superintendent Bob Scott says the teen was immediately suspended for ten days, and has been recommended for expulsion.

The superintendent says an expulsion hearing is scheduled for sometime in the next ten days. He tells Fox 8 Avon Lake Police and the Lorain County Juvenile Court will handle any criminal charges in this case.

Avon Lake High School reopened Friday afternoon, after a tense morning that included a period of time during which the building was on lockdown.

Just before 11 a.m., following the discovery of a threatening message inside the school, the Avon Lake Police Department was called out to the building located at 175 Avon Belden Road.

The school was on lockdown from that point until approximately 12:30 p.m. This action is standard operating procedure in cases such as this. Officers with the ALPD conducted a thorough search.

The note, which made reference to a gun, was found on a bathroom wall. A student saw it and notified school administrators.

As students were being interviewed and security-camera footage was being examined, a 14-year-old girl came forward and admitted writing the note. She now is being questioned by police, and faces punishment.

No gun was ever found, and classes resumed at the high school.

In the midst of the chaos, an official with Avon Lake City Schools informed Fox 8 News that the students were safe and that nobody had been evacuated.
