BRECKSVILLE, Ohio -
One day after North Royalton High School sent a notification to parents about a student with the H1N1 virus -- more commonly called the swine flu -- another high school in northeast Ohio was forced to do the same thing, Fox 8's Stacey Frey reports.
St. Ignatius High School sent an e-mail to parents on Tuesday, September 1, to explain that one of its students had contracted the virus.
The student in question is a freshman who got sick over the weekend while he was out of town. He never went to school with any symptoms, however, as his parents kept him home all week.
Just as in the North Royalton case, a family doctor confirmed H1N1 and the student was successfully quarantined. In both cases, parents were immediately notified.
The student in North Royalton also attends the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center. Anything he or she might have touched has been cleaned.
A spokesperson from St. Ignatius tells Fox 8 News that the school has prepared for the swine flu. There are posters in the bathrooms reminding students to constantly wash their hands and sanitizers are used on the desks in every classroom.
In both cases, school officials say that parents did exactly the right things.
"I have to compliment these parents. They did exactly what we would want them to do," CVCC Superintendent Roscoe Schlachter said. "They immediately kept their child at home when they saw the flulike symptoms, and we'll want them to keep the child until a day after they've fully recovered."
