CLEVELAND -- Hundreds endure the heat to help the elderly in Cleveland/

The charitable organization "Rebuilding Together Cleveland" joined forces with the Professional Remodelers of Ohio to assist those in need.

As part of a nationwide initiative, 350 volunteers repaired three homes in Cleveland Saturday.

Spokesperson Gail Bialek says, "We have all these volunteers from a variety of businesses and churches helping our seniors today."

The homeowners must fill out an application and are then selected based on their needs. They are all either elderly, disabled or both.

One of the people whose house was selected is Berlee Edwards. She suffered a brain tumor and has a heart condition. She says, "It means a great deal to make my property look nice. They do a good job."

Gail Bialek says the need is great in Cleveland because, "...Most of the houses are over 85 years old. So we need people to come out and help our seniors on a fixed income... help them with rebuilding, fixing their homes, yard repairs, all things they cant do for themselves."

Patricia Harmons property is also getting a makeover. She says her eyes welled with tears when she learned her house was chosen for repairs. "And I've done nothing but cry since," says Harmons.

Rebuilding Together Cleveland is part of a nationwide initiative.

It doesn't just fix the house, it makes it feel like a home again.

Just ask Harmons. She says, "There's nothing I can say or do to show my appreciation to these people."
