Although the men only traveled about a 1/4 mile, the damage left behind is estimated at $5,000. The Portage Hike and Bike Trail was built on June 6th.
Park officials say the men destroyed several sections of pavement along the Cuyahoga River Segment, knocked over two trees and hit part of the covered bridge.
Early Monday morning, a neighbor called police after he heard the bulldozer taking off. As soon as police showed up, the men jumped off the bulldozer and took off running. After a brief foot chase, police were able to catch up with the suspects.
Twenty-year-old Briton Woolf and 23-year-old Bryan Gaugh were arraigned Monday morning at Kent Municipal court on charges of felony theft and vandalism.
The two suspects are currently being held at the Portage County Jail. They are scheduled to be back in court for a preliminary hearing on Friday morning.
