VERMILION, Ohio -
The beauty of a perfectly kept farm house on the edge of Vermilion is marred by the tell tale signs of violence.
Yellow crime scene tape wraps around the front porch and down the side of Jeremy and Julene Simko's home.
Shortly after six a.m. on Tuesday morning Mrs. Simko called 9-1-1. She was obviously distraught, telling the dispatcher, "I need help."
Police arrived to find Mr. Simko dead. His wife told police she found him lying in bed with a gunshot wound to his head.
"This is kind of, I would have to say a shock because we don't know what led to this, Police Chief Bob Kish told Iteam Reporter Lorrie Taylor, "We don't know what's going on, we're trying to investigate". Kish said his department had no prior issues with the couple.
Al Hopp, a friend of Jeremy Simko's, told Taylor Simko became a security fanatic after several break-ins at his barn on North Ridge Road. That need for protection may help police determine what happened. Investigators plan to view security tape for clues.
"We're all anxious to find out what happened," Hopp said, "We're really sad and we're going to miss Jeremy"
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting Vermilion Police. BCI is processing the crime scene, looking for evidence like DNA and bullet casings. Chief Kish is saying very little about what investigators are finding for fear he will jeopardize the case. "This one has more twists and turns, this is not as clear cut as what happened."
Jeremy and Julene Simko owned Simko Tree Service.
No arrests have been made.
