NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio -- The Veteran's Relief Organization of Ohio is getting ready for a big holiday push.
"They love getting those holiday cards," says Wally Ohler, Director of Public Relations for the Veteran's Relief Organization of Ohio.
Wally and his group of only five people have successfully helped hundreds of veterans and their families over the years. On this day, they are packing up supplies and snacks for veterans in Iraq and Afghanistan.
During his 27 years of service to local vets, Wally has done whatever he can to help out.
"I see a need, I see a referral, I can't say no," said Ohler, a Vietnam Vet.
Not only do they help our troops overseas, they help provide food, clothing, and support for local veterans.
They hand out Giant Eagle gift cards to families who otherwise wouldn't have a holiday meal, they hand out blankets to the homeless as winter arrives, and they hand out toys for kids whose parents may not have enough money to provide for them.
For Wally, everyday is veteran's day, and although he continues to get donations from the community, he wants to challenge everyone in Ohio to do what they can to help out local vets. He does not want these men and women who have done so much for our country to be forgotten.
"These are human beings, and just to provide a little sunshine where there's little hope is very special to me."
