The Vice President of General Motors made a special trip to Ohio to talk with UAW workers about why the company has decided to close the Mansfield-Ontario Stamping Plant.

Friday afternoon, dozens of GM employees attended a public meeting at the Ontario City Hall to voice their concerns.

GM Vice President Tim Lee said, "As a company we have made mistakes. As a new General Motors our intent is to emerge and provide a new opportunity."

"He listened. We presented our case. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like it's going to make a difference," says GM employee Lisa Watts.

As part of its bankruptcy restructuring plan, General Motors announced the Ontario plant would be closing within a year. The closing would affect some 1200 workers.

Ohio Governor Ted Strickland and Senator Sherrod Brown also attended the meeting. Despite their efforts to persuade company execs to keep the plant from shutting down, General Motors did not make any promises.

"It helps bring closure to it," says UAW Local Chairman Ron Willis.
