BEREA, Ohio -- Maybe it was LeBron leaving, or maybe it was new team president Mike Holmgren's arrival, or maybe it was just a case of Browns fever... Day 1 of training camp in Berea was a sell-out, standing-room only crowd! Here's the news of the day.
Browns top pick Joe Haden agrees to a five-year deal worth $50 million, with $26 million guaranteed. He missed both practices today but Haden will take a physical and is expected to be on the practice field tomorrow (the Browns have only one practice at 1:30 p.m.). Haden flew into town on Thursday morning so he could be ready to practice at a moment's notice.
Coach Eric Mangini said rookie running back Montario Hardesty would miss a couple of weeks because of a knee injury suffered a few days earlier in a rookie training drill. Mangini said he doesn't anticipate surgery for Hardesty, who has had three surgeries on the knees already. Mangini said the current injury is unrelated to the previous ones.
In his first practice since suffering a torn pectoral muscle on Oct. 18, linebacker D'Qwell Jackson picked off a Jake Delhomme pass and took it to the endzone for a touchdown during the evening session. The crowd went wild!
Nose tackle Shaun Rogers, defensive lineman C.J. Mosley and cornerback Coye Francies remain on the physically unable to perform list and won't practice until passing physicals. Offensive linemen Tony Pashos (cold), Paul Fanaika (undisclosed) And Scott Kooistra (undisclosed). All worked on their own but did not practice with the team.
