CLEVELAND - The NFL is calling for a tailgating timeout!

Under the NFL "Fan Code of Conduct", the League has recommended limiting tailgating to 3 1/2 hours before game time. The tailgating limit would only apply to parking lots and areas that are owned by the stadium.

In an effort to crack down on excessive drinking and unruly behavior, the league is hoping to make the game day experience more family-oriented.

Since the recommendation came out this summer, only two of the 32 stadiums have complied with the tailgating limit.

Because Cleveland Browns Stadium does not own any of the parking lots, tailgaters here in northeast Ohio will not be affected, but that doesn't mean traveling fans won't have to put with the restrictions.

Browns Fan Bob Mullin said, "NFL fans have a right to have fun. I've been tailgating for 12 years and I've yet to see any incidents where people are just absolutely out of control."

Lakewood Resident Susan Butler said, "I think it helps cut down on the drinking and driving, which is a good thing."

"All we have is tailgating! If you take that away from us, you're not going to sell any tickets, it's going to be more pathetic than it is now," said Browns Fan Melissa Bramante.

When asked whether or not the city would consider scaling back the hours at the Muni Lot during home days, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson's office released this statement:

"The activities in the Municipal Parking Lot are well-managed and on game days, the Division of Police deploys twelve (12) Patrol Officers and two (2) supervisory officers to monitor and control activities. There are no plans at the present time to eliminate the opportunity for fans to tail-gate in the lot."
