Five counts of animal cruelty were filed against Barbara Guillermo, of Seville, after puppies were recently found dead on her property.
Candace Hertzel, of the Medina County SPCA, says they removed eight puppies and 13 adult dogs from a property on Willow Road two weeks ago. Three puppies were found dead on the property.
"From the pictures in the investigation we can see mud, feces some of the dogs are up to their shoulders in mud and dirt. The water is not always clean, there's not running water on the property so its not clear how water is being served to these animals," Hertzel said.
According to Hertzel, many of the dogs had bite wounds from being housed with other aggressive dogs that were not cared for. One of the dogs will have surgery to repair the wound, followed by continuous care.
Barbara Guillermo spent six months in jail in 2002 and was put on probation after humane officers removed 75 abused animals from the same property on Willow Road. Guillermo could not be reached for comment.
"To have such a repeat offender, someone whose previously been convicted and once off probation goes back to doing the same behavior its frustrating and we hope justice is served and she gets the maximum punishment," Hertzel said.
The SPCA is working to find foster homes for the puppies and the dogs. So far Hertzel says the non-profit has racked up several thousand dollars in vet bills caring for the sick animals.
