He resigned amid two investigations into his police department, and now former Bratenahl Police Chief Paul Falzone is facing indictments.
Wednesday the Cuyahoga County Grand Jury indicted Falzone on one count of theft in office and one count of obstructing official business.
"It involves the use of his time and conducting campaign functions while on the clock for the village of Bratenahl. One of the charges relates to the instructions or ordering fellow officers to conduct part of his campaign work for him while on the city time," Prosecutor Paul Soucie said.
Soucie says the indictment does not involve missing weapons, drugs and money from the department's evidence locker. He says while there is sufficient evidence that the items were missing, there is not enough evidence to who might have taken the items.
Last winter when the investigation began, Bratenahl Mayor John Licastro blamed sloppy bookkeeping for the missing evidence. Licastro says since the investigation began most of the evidence has been found.
As to his former chief's indictment, Licastro said, "Apparently the legal wheels are turning and we'll see how this plays out."
Soucie says Falzone will be arraigned and enter a plea in the coming weeks.
