Dirty Dancing Ban in Brunswick
Brunswick high school principal Michael Mayell says the dance style, also known as grinding, is nothing more than simulated sex and has no place at a school.

The principal is demanding that students attending Brunswick's winter formal on Saturday sign an agreement that they will not not engage in grinding.

Violators will be thrown out.

Many students are boycotting the dance.

Others are calling for a compromise. Junior Joe Richardson says, "There are kids who take it a little bit too far and there are kids who need to be talked to about it, I think the whole canceling of the grinding and everything is a little bit too far, that's a little bit too harsh."

But the principal says he's committed to taking the dirty out of dancing.

Michael Mayell tells Fox 8 News, "My question to them is always -- if your mom and dad came in and saw you dancing like that, what would they do? and they all had the same reaction, 'oh my God, my parents would pull me out of there, they'd ground me, they would never let me go to a dance again,' and my response is -- then why should I allow you to do that."

So far only about 30 tickets have been sold for the dance and the principal says there's a chance it will be canceled.
