MENTOR, Ohio -- Mentor Police have arrested an elementary music school teacher who allegedly had sex with a student.
Monday, 35-year-old Barry Valentine was arraigned on a rape charge. Mentor Police say Valentine forced a then 15-year-old student into an unwanted sexual relationship. The first alleged assault happened at band camp, at Memorial Junior High, in the summer of 2007.
Valentine was arrested Friday, after the alleged victim told her parents. The Mentor School District removed Valentine from their faculty.
Dr. Jacqueline Hoynes, The Mentor Schools Superintendent says, "we are outraged and saddened that a teacher in our district allegedly abused his position of trust to victimize a student and we'll continue to offer our full cooperation with the police to ensure that this individual is brought to justice and to make sure no other students were harmed in any way."
Mentor Police are encouraging any other possible victims to contact them.
