EUCLID, Ohio, - A neighborhood is reeling after a 75-year-old woman beat a fawn to death with a shovel, after discovering it in her shrubbery.
Euclid Police expect animal abuse charges to be filed sometime this week.
Dorothy Richardson declined to talk on camera, but she did tell us she hit the fawn with a shovel because she was scared. Richardson claims the fawn was making hissing noises and she says after hitting the fawn just once, it fell over and was dead.
Richardson's neighbor and Euclid Ward 1 Councilman Christopher Gruber says that is not the story Richardson told him.
Gruber says Richardson told him she killed the deer to keep it from eating her flowers.
"She said she was going to put the deer at the edge of the woods so the other deer know not to come and eat her flowers," said Gruber.
Gruber says during his 10-years as councilman, this is the most vocal residents have been over a single issue.
If Richardson is found guilty of animal abuse charges, she could face a maximum fine of $1,000 and be sentenced to up to six months in jail.
