"We're confident with the player on the field and off the field," he said.

Edwards declined to discuss the situation, saying it's a legal matter, but realizes his character has come into question because of other off-field incidents.

"At the end of the day, who I am, who I believe I am and who I know am is a great guy," he said. "I think things get blown out of proportion at times."

Edwards has also taken some criticism for his propensity for dropping passes and lapses in concentration.

"Is he going to catch every pass that's thrown to him? No," Ryan said. "But, he's going to catch enough of them and he's going to make a lot of difference."

His new teammates don't seem too worried either.

"He's shown on film to just make great catches," Sanchez said. "Whether the ball is behind him, over his head, he has to dive, they're all catches. I'm not planning on throwing anything too far out of reach."

"I know he's going to add something great to this offense," Jerricho Cotchery said. "We've got to smile about that because he's a great player and he's going to demand a lot of attention."

"I think he's going to fit right in with our group," Ryan said.

Edwards has led the Browns in receiving yards three seasons in a row through 2008. So far, in 2009, he has played and started in all four games, and he was expected to start this weekend against the Buffalo Bills.

Edwards has started 37 consecutive games and has 11 career 100-yard receiving games, tied with Gary Collins for fourth on the team's all-time chart. Last week, Browns quarterback Derek Anderson threw the ball to him five times against Cincinnati, but he had no completions for the first time in his career.

As for once again orchestrating a deal with his former team, Mangini said that they do try to trade with teams other than the Jets, but it all depends on the value of the trade.

"To me, it's really about how we can improve our team," Mangini said. "(The Jets) have a perspective as to how they can improve their team.

"It will give another really good opportunity for Brian Robiskie to continue his path. We have a younger group (of wide receivers) that has really good potential."
