Presidential Statue Beheaded; Police Search for Missing Head
A nearly 100 year old statue of former President James Garfield survived the Great Depression, wars and harsh weather, but it didn't last a week on a local college campus.

The statue of Garfield, which had been in storage for years, was just dedicated at Hiram College in Portage County on Thursday. By Friday morning, its head was missing.

Hiram Police Chief Mark Lombardi says he believes the missing head could be the result of a senior prank.

Chief Lombardi says officers have been tirelessly looking in dorm rooms, the woods, even construction sites, for the sandstone head.

At Saturday's commencement ceremonies, students were posing for pictures in front of the headless statue, but not everyone thought the prank was funny.

Some alumnae said stealing Garfield's head went too far for a senior prank.

Police say whoever stole the head could face theft and vandalism charges.
